Baby Safe (and pregnancy safe) moisturizers

WHile finding a list of ingredients in personal care products is easier today than before, it still can be challenging to determine safety⁣
🤨companies dont have to specify ingredients used in fragrances (although some companies like Procter and Gamble have recently committed to disclosing fragrance ingredients too)⁣
🤨ingredients lists are often really hard to decipher. ⁣
🤨Additionally, in the US, at a federal level no one regulates toxins in personal care products like moisturizers. Products and ingredients don't have to be tested for safety; companies are free to include pretty much any ingredient they desire... including chemicals like phthalates /fragrance, parabens etc that have been linked to endocrine disruption (messing with your hormones), cancer & even asthma. ⁣
🤨Then there is greenwashing in the personal care space. This is when a company uses a label like ‘natural’ ‘organic’ or ‘dermatologist tested’ to mislead the consumer into thinking the product is better than others…. but these labels, because they are not regulated, have no true meaning in terms of the toxicity of the ingredients.⁣

🌿👉🏻So- how do you make sure you are using the purest ingredients? The most efficient way is to make it yourself.⁣
This is my go to moisturizing DIY recipe- I made it while pregnant, used it on my babies and even today when I need some serious moisture.⁣

The ingredients are all natural, readily available, not too expensive and also excellent moisturizer: its safe for babies and mamas, super simple to whip up and more effective than many store bought moisturizers.⁣

𝗜𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀⁣

🌿1 cup shea butter⁣

🌿1/2 cup coconut oil⁣
🌿2 Tbsp (or more) jojoba oil, almond, or oil avocado oil ⁣

🌿optional: a couple of drops of organic essential oil of your choice⁣

𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀⁣

🌿Add shea butter & coconut oil to a double boiler & melt.⁣

🌿Add the jojoba/almond/ avocado oil⁣

🌿Allow bowl with oils to cool. Place in fridge for a couple of hours⁣

🌿When it has solidified on top you can start to mix with an electric mixer until it thickens about 4-5 minutes. ⁣

🌿Stop when its whipped -almost merengue like- body butter!
