Is There a New Non-Toxic Car Seat In Town?

Thanks to various readers of my blog I heard about the new Nuna PIPA Lite.   

The 2017 new car seat model claims that it: 

" weighs in less than every infant car seat—only 5.3 lbs. Tote with ease longer, knowing it goes the distance with aeroflex™ foam, true lock™ base installation, and no added fire retardant chemicals. All while exceeding American safety standards."

"no added fire retardants"  what does that mean? Could it be true!?  I started researching and eventually contacted two different people at Nuna and both (customer service and media contact) confirmed that the Nuna Pipa Lite:

1. " PIPA lite has no flame-retardant chemicals in the fabric nor in the foam.

2. The federal regulation (FMVSS 302) is a performance based requirement. The PIPA lite includes materials that are able to pass this standard without the need to apply any flame-retardant chemicals."

This is big news moms and dads.

 I am trying to find out if we can have it independently tested to confirm these claims (in the past companies have claimed no flame retardants and independent tests have found flame retardant chemicals) so fingers crossed- but in the mean time it seems like it could be a great non-toxic option and another example of a company using new green technology to avoid toxic flame retardant chemicals!!

The car seat retails for $349.95. I have only found it available online on the Nuna website and select online retailers.  However, they will be arriving at more stores in the next couple of weeks so I will keep you informed
