Pregnancy Safe Beauty & Personal Care Essentials
Pregnancy is considered a “window of susceptibility”. This means that during pregnancy, both mom and the development fetus, are more vulnerable to toxins than during another period of life.
In other words, it’s worth being extra cautious with what you use ingest, use in your body etc,. Everything you use on yourself will make its way to your developing baby.
What to avoid?
retinols (Retin-A, Retinol and Retinyl Palmitate)
synthetic fragrances
Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic acids
hydroquinone
Salicylic Acid and benzoyle peroxide
Proceed with caution: Essential Oils: these are not regulate by the FDA. They can cause allergic reactions, can be of lower quality and/or have very high potency which could be unsafe. If using, always use a good reputable company that uses dilluted EO … consider patch testing first
This is what I used or what I would recommend from the brands that I like (I made a note of what I used) . Remember, though, that everyone’s skin is different and pregnancy can make your skin really sensitive so there is a possibility that what works for me doesn’t work for you.
Finally, I think a good rule of thumb is to keep it really really simple less products better!
What I used
Face cleaner: jojoba oil and/or coconut oil
moisturizer/serum: OSEA argan Oil (sadly not sold anymore… a similar product, their Day Glow Oil, is available but I am dont recommend it during pregnancy since it has osmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract. In high dosis - which this does not have- is could be harmful… I would skip. Safe for nursing though) and/or coconut oil
Body moisturizer:
Shower/ body wash:
Hair: with my first two pregnancies, I just stopped dying my hair. But with this one I had a whole lot of gray hair almost 85 to 90% in the front so what I did is that twice once in the second semester and once in the third trimester, I used Hairprint
