Day 04: 10 Days of Non-Toxic Living in 2016

Welcome to day 4 of our 10 Days of Non-Toxic Living in 2016!

Yesterday,

Day 03, we explained the importance of rethinking your family's moisturizing routine which could be exposing harmful chemicals to your body's largest organ and instead, opting for natural cooking oils like organic coconut oil.

Today, we have another super easy to follow tip that can dramatically reduce the chemicals you and your family are exposed to on a daily basis and with easily can become part of your daily routine:

TIP 4:  Thursday, January 7, 2016:

Just Say No To Store Receipts

How many store receipts do you come into contact with on a daily basis?  At the ATM, the grocery store, gas station, pharmacy and after lunch or dinner out.... Did you know that many store receipts:  specifically thermal store receipts, contain BPA and other similar chemicals?

Most people are familiar with BPA and know enough to not buy items with BPA (although, oftentimes BPA free products contain very similar chemicals that have been shown to be equally as

harmful. When possible switch from BPA free plastic to glass or stainless steel.... but I digress)

Why? BPA, and similar chemicals are endocrine disrupting chemical which imitate estrogen and, as explained by Healthy Child Healthy World "

Studies have shown that even low-level exposure can lead to reproductive harm, including poor sperm count, early puberty, increased risk of cancer, depression in teenage girls, and obesity. A report from The President’s Cancer Panel in 2010 identified more than 130 studies that have linked BPA to breast cancer, obesity, and other health disorders."have been linked to adverse effects on brain development and excessive reproductive gland development.

Declining thermal store receipts, not allowing your little kids to touch them is a great way to avoid common BPA exposure  - not to mention less paper waste is also better for the planet ! If you have to handle these receipts avoid using hand sanitizers since higher levels of BPA were found in people who handled thermal receipts after using hand sanitizers.  Instead make sure you wash your hands with plain old soap and water.
