Non-Toxic Munchkin Approved Everyday Must Have Products

Kids may be only 30% of our population but they are 100% our future" -

Robyn O'Brian recently said this in a workshop I attended and I immediately wrote it down... I mean of course it makes sense but why, I wonder, are so many lawmakers and company heads failing to protect our future?

We could be talking about diet or education....because the reality is that things need to improve to give our children a stronger future BUT today we are talking about the need to protect our children from harmful chemicals that are in every thing we use/eat/smell/clean/play with every single day.

Our children, more than ever, need parents that will look out for their present and future health- Among the challenges we face as parents are:

  1. Babies today are born with over 200 chemicals in their umbilical cord blood

  2. Today there are over 87,000 chemicals used in the US- of which approximately 7,700 – are produced in what the EPA considers “significant amounts” while not all of them are necessarily harmful to us virtually none have been tested for safety specifically for children and only about 200 have been tested for safety in adults in the US.

  3. Fetal, Baby and children's immune systems are not developed enough to protect from and eliminate toxins like adults

  4. Data from new research available today shows that chemicals can show effects at low doses that are not seen at high doses. Chemicals do different stuff at low levels that they do not do at high levels.

Bottom line?  We as parents have to protect our children.  With 85% of household product  purchases being made by moms- the buck stops with us.

Having said that, I understand that one of the biggest challenges when making a switch to non-toxic products is, simply, not knowing what products to buy.

Which brands are trustworthy?

Which do what they claim they will?

Do I have to pay a lot more for a non-toxic product?

Where can I find these products?

So I asked my followers on Instagram (@nontoxicmunchkin) what products they wanted to change in their homes and needed recommendations for - here is the list:

General Cleaner

- Before I include my list of recommended products I have to mention how easy and effective making your own general cleaner is. As in: fill a spray bottle with 50% organic white distilled vinegar and 50% water (you can add pure organic eucaliptus essential oil for the smell or r tea tree oil for an extra antibacterial punch). This is edible. This is perfectly safe for your children. This is cheap. This cleans (yes, vinegar in a natural disinfectant.) It is the ideal multi purpose cleaner.

Laundry Detergent/Stain Remover

When determining which one to buy:  I find it helpful to take into consideration what I am washing. Is it baby clothing ?  Is it adult (or teenage) sweaty gym clothing?   Is soccer stained clothing?

Eco Nuts, for example, I really like for its purity but I find it works best on clothing that does not have heavy stains.  Also, don't just try one and give up and return to your conventional detergent.  Give other brands a chance.
