Top 4 mold free ( and organic) coffee brands
Mycotoxins are chemicals produced by mold
In food, they are not uncommon at low levels. If you eat cereal, alcohol, dried fruit, peanut butter, drink coffee and nuts, its likely you are regularly exposed to trace amounts of mycotoxins
Generally, in healthy adult individuals, our liver generally does a great job detoxifying these things from our bodies. However, for some sensitive individuals - as well as people who are already overexposed to toxins- it can contribute to short and long term health effects including; nausea, skin inflammation, GI issues, chronic exhaustion, sinus infections, cold and flu-like symptoms, immune deficiency, and cancer.
MYCOTOXINS in coffee
➡️Mycotoxins (aflatoxin B1 & ochratoxin A), which are toxins formed by mold, can be found in many coffee beans, albeit generally at very low levels.
➡️Some people will not be affected by these low levels of mycotoxins in their coffee (just like some people are not affected by mold growth in their home) but, in sensitive individuals, it can affect
➡️ochratoxin A has also been found in human breast milk- something to consider if nursing
➡️Decaf & instant coffee are higher in mycotoxins
➡️mycotoxin levels can significantly be reduced with: wet processing, roasting beans & proper storage
Bottom Line?
I dont think that everyone has to throw away their (hopefully Organic) coffee just because they dont test for mycotoxins BUT if you are sensitive to mold, going through mold remediation, pregnant or nursing, I would consider finding one that tests.
